Glen Davis Set For Foot Surgery, Likely Done For Season

Jan 31, 2013 5:23 PM

Glen Davis will undergo surgery to repair a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot.

Davis is expected to miss eight to 12 weeks, which could effectively end his season.

Davis suffered the injury on Wednesday when he appeared to step on the foot of Iman Shumpert.

“I feel really bad for the guy,” J.J. Redick said. “I know he’s had high expectations for himself and for this team this season, and he’s had a rough go of it. I feel bad for him.”

Colangelo: Bargnani Drew Trade Interest Before Injury

Jan 31, 2013 5:02 PM

The Toronto Raptors earlier this season fielded trade inquiries about Andrea Bargnani, general manager Bryan Colangelo confirmed.

Bargnani has been sidelined since Dec. 12 with a right elbow injury.

"There's teams interested I know that," Colangelo said. "I've got a handful of situations that people were monitoring this whole injury process. I'm not saying anything with any concrete nature that he's going to be traded but we're looking to make our basketball team better and I've pretty much told everybody: nobody on our team is untradeable based on some of the things we are looking to do and what our objectives are."

Colangelo expects Bargnani to return with a chip on his shoulder, which could stimulate trade talks.

"You're going to see, I think, a rejuvenated Andrea Bargnani when he comes back from the injury here in a few days," Colangelo explained. "He's got something to prove. Maybe he proves just enough to create a trade conversation.

"I will tell you that any interest in Andrea -- which there was quite a bit early on in this season -- went by the wayside when he got hurt. So that's just a natural part of the business when a guy's not playing you can't really discuss him."

Rondo Seeks Opinions Of Dr. Andrews, Adrian Peterson

Jan 29, 2013 10:23 PM

Rajon Rondo will seek a second opinion on his torn right ACL, which may involve consulting with Dr. James Andrews.

"He (Dr. Andrews) is one that we're definitely considering," Rondo's agent Bill Duffy, told CSNNE.com. "If he's No. 1, there's a couple 1As and 1Bs we're looking at as well."

Rondo also hopes to speak with Adrian Peterson, who made a remarkable recovery from the same injury.

Andrews performed surgery on Peterson.

"He's distraught but he understands what he has to do," Duffy said. "We have to have him channel all that energy into getting stronger and healthy as soon as possible."

Alexey Shved Aims To Return Wednesday

Jan 29, 2013 2:46 PM

After missing the past five games with a sprained ankle, Alexey Shved expects to return to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Clippers, agent Obrad Fimic told RealGM.

Shved had wanted to come back at some point last week, but he and the Timberwolves ultimately believed that he needed more time to heal his left ankle. The 24-year-old participated in practice on Monday as the team played scrimmage games.

With averages of almost 11 points and five assists, Shved has been one of the top rookies this season.

The Timberwolves also signed both Mickael Gelabale and Chris Johnson to second 10-day contracts on Tuesday.

Bynum Will Return After All-Star Break

Jan 29, 2013 9:53 AM

Andrew Bynum has decided to make his return from injury in the period right after the All-Star break.

There had been an increased hope that Bynum would make his debut before the break.

“I talked about that for a while,” said Bynum. “I think giving myself a full other week of training camp is going to be better than trying to come back before that. To me, it doesn’t really matter when I come back.”

Bynum could begin practicing as soon as Monday.

“He’s finishing up the last phase and then he’ll start to do more and more basketball-related activities and slowly build up to where he can get out there and practice 5-on-5 with the team,” Tony DiLeo said.

“The most critical part of his program is coming up. Once he gets out there in basketball action — against defenders, running, jumping, cutting — that’s a critical part to see how he reacts to that.”

Rondo Expected To Return By Training Camp

Jan 28, 2013 8:46 PM

Danny Ainge expects the Boston Celtics to have Rajon Rondo available for training camp in October after tearing the ACL in his right knee.

"Rajon will get surgery in 10 to 14 days, when the swelling is right and we anticipate that he'll back and as good as ever in training camp," Ainge said. "(Kendrick Perkins) Perk came back in six months and that's a little bit unusual and Adrian Peterson came back in six months and so did Wes Welker. I guess every body is a little bit different and [with] every injury there's some differences."

Ainge said he has no plans to make immediate trades or major roster changes.

Howard Believes He Won't Eventually Need Shoulder Surgery

Jan 28, 2013 4:45 PM

Dwight Howard believes he will not need surgery on his injured right shoulder, even in the offseason.

Howard would likely need six months to rehabilitate his shoulder if he were to undergo surgery.

“As of right now, no,” Howard said. “Hopefully it doesn’t get bad enough to where I have to have surgery. I don’t want to think about that right now.”

Howard has treated the shoulder with around-the-clock icing and electronic stimulation.
