Kings Expected To Make Trade Offer For Anthony

Aug 31, 2010 5:04 PM

If the Nuggets make Carmelo Anthony available via trade as expected, the Kings will make an offer.

"If and when the Denver Nuggets commit to a sign-and-trade for Carmelo Anthony, the Kings will thrust themselves into the conversation. Count on it," writes Ailene Voisin of the Sacramento Bee.

"That said, Joe and Gavin Maloof have been consistent about two things: (1) They are not interested in adding role players to eat up the salary cap space they've finally created; and (2) They are absolutely interested in a game-changer type of player, someone who puts fannies in the seats and affects the won-loss percentage."

Nets Unwilling To Offer Lopez For Carmelo

Aug 31, 2010 12:40 PM

According to one report, the Nets are not willing to include Brook Lopez in an attempt to trade for Carmelo Anthony. But New Jersey's offer of Devin Harris, Derek Favors and draft picks may still give the Nuggets the best pieces in return for Anthony.

No mention is made of whether Anthony would agree to sign an extension with the Nets or the other interested teams as part of a trade out of Denver. Anthony's long-term commitment figures to be a prerequisite before teams offer the Nuggets quality assets in a deal.

The Nuggets have had discussions with the Bulls that center around Luol Deng and Taj Gibson.

The Warriors may offer Stephen Curry, Andris Biedrins and draft picks but are not sure that they will make Curry available.

The Clippers are called a long shot with Chris Kaman and Eric Gordon the likely two targets whom Denver would look to acquire.

Nuggets Prefer To Deal Carmelo To Nets, Kings Or Wolves

Aug 28, 2010 5:05 PM

Sam Amico of NBA.com is reporting that the Nuggets are looking at three teams as destinations for All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony -- the Nets, Kings and Timberwolves.

"Early word around NBA is Nuggets will try to trade Carmelo to 1 of 3 teams: Wolves, Kings, Nets. In other words, careful what you wish for," Amico wrote on his Twitter page.

The New York Post reported on Saturday morning that the Nets are a "legit" suitor for Anthony.

An NBA executive was quoted as saying that New Jersey as the right pieces to acquire the forward.

Nets Are 'Legit' Suitors For Anthony

Aug 28, 2010 4:48 PM

The Nets are believed to be a legitimate contender for Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony reportedly told Denver that he wants to be traded earlier this week. New general manager Masai Ujiri wants to meet with the All-Star forward and try to keep him.

"They have the pieces to trade and the draft picks," one NBA team executive said of the Nets. "He'd play for them. Yes, I do think the Nets have a legit shot."

Nets general manager Billy King refused to comment when pressed by The New York Post.

"I can't comment on trade rumors," King said.

Crawford Wouldn't Be Hard For Hawks To Trade

Aug 28, 2010 10:39 AM

If Hawks sixth man Jamal Crawford asks for a trade this week, Atlanta shouldn't have much difficulty finding a new home for the veteran.

Crawford is entering the final year of his contract and wants an extension.

He will make $10.1 million in 2010-11 and provide salary cap relief after the season for a potential new team.

Without Extension, Jamal Crawford Seeks Trade

Aug 28, 2010 1:48 AM

Frustrated the Hawks have not offered him a contract extension, Jamal Crawford will ask the club to trade him, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Crawford, who is in the final year of a contract that will pay him $10M this season, approached the Hawks the first week of July about an extension. Hawks GM Rick Sund has not made Crawford an offer, a source with the organization told ESPN.

The sides are scheduled to meet next week and if the Hawks do not make Crawford an offer he considers reasonable, he will ask to be traded.

Ujiri: Keeping Carmelo My Top Priority

Aug 28, 2010 12:52 AM

The Nuggets' new general manager, Masai Ujiri, told The Associated Press Friday night that his top priority is to try to keep Carmelo Anthony with the franchise.

"Of course, that's going to be the priority," Ujiri said. "Melo is a great player, I think arguably a top-5 player in the NBA. ... It's a challenge, but I'll meet with Melo at some point. He's in China and he'll come back in the next couple of days. So, we'll set something up."

Ujiri understands that Anthony faces a major decision.

"I think that Melo maybe sometimes he goes through this in his mind and says, 'Should I stay? Should I go?' That's natural with somebody of his caliber and obviously sometimes he'll have his frustrations," Ujiri said. "But we love Melo. The city loves Melo. The players, the coaches."

Ujiri's previous position in Toronto exposed him to a similar predicament where the team's marquee player did not sign the extension offered him.

"I just came from the Chris Bosh situation with the Toronto Raptors, so I can relate to how difficult it is on both sides," Ujiri said. "Obviously with management, with coaching, with the player himself."

Billups Might Be A Trade Chip As Well

Aug 27, 2010 4:19 PM

John Hollinger of ESPN.com points out that the Nuggets could also shop point guard Chauncey Billups if Carmelo Anthony is indeed traded.

"Remember, if the Nuggets trade Melo and rebuild, there's really no point in them keeping Billups either. Could be two All-Stars on market," Hollinger wrote on his Twitter page.

Anthony told Denver this week that he wants to be dealt.
