Hawks, Horford 'Still Talking' Extension

Oct 31, 2010 9:51 PM

The Hawks and Al Horford continue to discuss a possible contract.

Monday's 11:59 p.m. ET deadline for contract extensions looms and Horford appears to be the most likely candidate remaining to receive a deal.

One source close to the negotiations told ESPN.com's Marc Stein on Sunday that the parties "are still talking" and says a deal -- rated as "probable" by another source last week -- is a "50-50" shot at this point.

Little Movement In Fernandez Trade Talks

Oct 31, 2010 9:41 PM

The Trail Blazers picked up the fourth-year option on the contract of Rudy Fernandez on Friday.

Fernandez is now under contract for the 2011-12 season for $2.2M, a deal that won't likely prohibit a future trade.

Agent Andy Miller met with Portland general manager Rich Cho and assistant GM Steve Rosenberry recently, but Ken Berger of CBS Sports reports that there is little movement on the trade front.

Acclaimed director and longtime Knicks fan Spike Lee is certain that Carmelo Anthony will play for his team in the near future.

"I have just one sentence for you," Lee told The New York Post on Saturday night. "Carmelo Anthony will be with the Knicks if God is willing and the creek don't rise."

Lee attended Anthony's wedding in July and The Post reported earlier this month that Anthony has told Lee the Knicks are far and away his top choice.

Spurs Sign Parker To Extension

Oct 30, 2010 12:43 PM

Tony Parker has agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the Spurs.

Parker was eligible to become a free agent as a member of the 2011 class.

?I didn?t mind playing through the year,? Parker told the Express-News on Saturday. ?But it?s great to have security,  and not go through a whole season worried if I get hurt or if I play bad. Now I can just focus on  the team and hopefully have a great season and win a lot of games.?

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said he was happy to have one potential distraction off the table.

?I don?t know what was going to happen (in terms of distraction), but whatever was going to happen probably isn?t because he signed,? Popovich said. ?He?s been a big part of what we?ve been doing around here for a lot of years. To have him in the fold and be a Spur for this long is fantastic for us, and hopefully for him, too.?

Young Hopes For Extension With 76ers

Oct 30, 2010 10:26 AM

76ers forward Thaddeus Young is hoping to receive a contract extension from the team before the Nov. 1 deadline.

"I would love to be extended," Young said. "Who wouldn't? I love the city. I love the fans. I want to be here. This is the place that drafted me. I want to continue my career here. But I'm just letting my agent (Jim Tanner) take care of everything. Hopefully, it works out."

Young is making $2.9 million this season. If he doesn't receive an extension, he'll become a restricted free agent in July.

The 76ers and Tanner "have had some discussions," team president Rod Thorn said Thursday. "It doesn't appear that we will (agree on an extension) at this time."
