Jeff Van Gundy could be a potential candidate to coach the Nets, sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Van Gundy hadn't planned to return to coaching next season, but the Nets believe he'll be willing to listen to a pitch and their chances of landing a top flight coach are improved with president Rod Thorn staying.
Michigan State's Tom Izzo is considered a sleeper for the gig.
He was believed to have interest in the Chicago coaching job a few years ago, but luring Izzo from college might be difficult.

Nets CEO Brett Yormark will have lunch with a fan who recently attended a game with a brown paper bag over his head to protest the team's woeful season.
Yormark will sit down for lunch with Chris Lisi of Middletown on Tuesday at the Nets' headquarters.
The CEO had a brief heated exchange with Lisi a week ago after seeing him with the brown bag on his head during a game.

The Nets defeated the Pistons 118-110 on Friday night, giving them nine wins for the season.
New Jersey, 9-63, is no longer in danger of being the worst team in NBA history. Even if they lose their remaining 10 games, they'll be tied with the 76ers (1972-73) for the worst mark in league history (9-73).
The win over Detroit also marked the first time this season that the Nets have won consecutive games.
"We're smiling," said point guard Devin Harris. "It's good to get two wins in a row, but we're not satisfied. We want to continue to be better and finish the season on a high note."
